Jazz dance combines techniques of classical ballet and modern dance with the current forms of popular dance. Jazz also has its own movement vocabulary ranging from the isolation of certain body parts to the movement of the entire body with the accents of musical rhythms. Jazz dance can take on many different characteristics and styles, including Street Jazz, Percussive, Broadway, Contemporary and Lyrical. Jazz classes can be patterned in any of these styles or a combination of them. Emphasis is on the importance of energy, rhythmical accuracy, and style.
This style is a beautiful blend of ballet, jazz, and modern. Dancers learn the techniques of ballet and Jazz while expressing themselves with emotions and rhythms of Modern styles. They will allow students to identify with popular music, and encourage them to tell stories through interpretation and self-expression.

Kerissa has been dancing since she was 10 years old. She trained in tap for five years, and then joined her High School Dance team, where her favorite dances were lyrical and novelty. She took jazz classes for four years in college, and then revived her love for dance a few years later, in 2004, when she started taking classes from Jeffie Lou. She started teaching summer camps with Jeffie Lou in 2007, and has been a part of D&G since its inception. She still dances weekly with Jeffie Lou at West Seattle Health Club. She is also Delaney's mom, who you will see around the studio, and is also a future D&G Dancer.
Jason started training through the Shorecrest Hip Hop program with Rex Kinney. After high school, he began training at the Westlake Dance Center in northern Seattle, until eventually gaining a slot there as a teacher. He's been on Breed Seattle, Kontagious Movement, Cruz Control, Westsiders, and currently works with The Folks, a local art collective he helped start. He's worked with the likes of Rex Kinney, Daniel Cruz and many Seattle based hip hop choreographers.
I have grown up in Seattle for the past 20 years. I started dance at Pacific Northwest Ballet at the age of 7 up until my Sophmore year of high school. During my years at PNB I had the opporunity to be in the Nutcracker, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Coppelia, and Snow White. After that journey, it was time for a new chapter in dance. I started to expand my horizons after training with Alonzo King at Lines Ballet for a summer intensive. I have had the opportunity to train with The Westsiders based out of Westlake Dance Center. Currently, I am rehearsing with a variety of choreographers from the greater Seattle, mostly based from Velocity Dance Center. As I head into a new chapter of my artistry I want to create a thriving space that holds a positive pursuit towards their path in dance.
My name is Kiana Jackson Thorn, I was born and raised in Seattle Washington. I've preformed dance and Broadway shows with Stage Strucked since I was 4. I have also been apart of Jeffie Lou s D&G dance studios since the beginning. I started choreographing four years ago and have working during school, and summer camps for five years. Also I have taken part in dance conventions like MOHH for many years as well.
Born and raised in Seattle, Washington. Avery has been dancing for 10 years, he started his dancing as a freestyler and later transitioned to training in Jazz, Ballet, contemporary, and Hip Hop classes. Training began at a local studio in his neighborhood, to then transitioning to train with an independent crew, and later transitioning back to an industry award winning studio held in Mukilteo. Within these 10 years, Avery has experience in dancing for tens of thousands of people on many different platforms. These platforms include being on the Seattle Storm Dance Troupe, a performer at the annual community service event, WeDay held at Key Arena, and most recently dancing for the Grammy award winner, Ciara in 2016. His choreography is a unique fusion of technical based moves, as well as soulful and groovy moves with focus on musical intricacies in the songs he choreographs to. Avery Gardner is very excited to be joining the D&G family with the mission for growth in the D&G dancers."
Erika's dance training began on the Kentwood High School Dance Team, where she developed her foundation for Hip-Hop, Jazz, and Ballet. Our Mission Statement:
D&G Dance Company is South Seattle Dance Company that is proud to have a committed diverse studio of dancers that are passionate about the art of dance. We work hard to introduce and instill just the right amount of self-expression, discipline, and passion in each of our students. Whether a student is dancing to gain technique, learn a new style, have fun in movement or planning to expand their possibilities in dance for their education, we are here to guide them along the way. Our goal is to allow each dancer to experience the elements of dance; confidence, coordination, creativity, grace, musicality, rhythm, self-esteem, technique, an appreciation for music and dance, and above all fun! In today's world, it is a little slice of heaven for our students to experience all of these positive uplifting feelings. Our studio is their second home and the teachers and fellow students are their family. D&G Dance is designed to prepare our students for every facet of the dance community. It is our responsibility as educators to have all of our students, from the youngest to oldest, to be well-rounded dancers and to prepare them for all avenues of the dance world. We are proud to have committed teachers that provide the highest level of dance education because they are in the industry as current working artist. We also strongly encourage discipline, collaboration, and work ethic. Our studio is a place of learning the art of dance, however learning the art of dance is also learning about oneself. Students are encouraged to express themselves in dance while also paying respect to themselves, fellow classmates, instructors, and the studio. These building blocks will not only help our students in the dance studio, but also in everyday life. D&G Dance Company provides all of our students with a balanced combination of technique, performance, artistry and life skills

Do you want to have fun and know how to dance when you go out? Check this out! Many people feel uncoordinated, stiff, and lack rhythm. After lessons you will have improved rhythm and coordination, learned how to approach and dance with whomever they want. Often times, people are shy/embarrassed to dance. I coach my students on how to have fun, be sexy and confident on the dance floor! People often repeat the same movements over and over again, therefore they look uninteresting. Students will learn moves moves to add to their "dance vocabulary" and how to vary them so they are not dancing the same movements repeatedly. I will teach you today's hottest dance moves you can use the next time you're out dancing in a club, bar or party. And instead of teaching you cheesy choreographed "routines" ... we decided to instead teach you a bunch of individual dance moves. So when you're out dancing it will look and feel totally natural... instead of memorized and rehearsed.
